Fast food chains, also known as Quick Service Restaurants (QSR), are a common sight in the Philippines. They belong to the so-called low end restaurants, which caters to people with no fancy food preferences or to those with tight budgets. These qualities fit well in the Filipino community, because simply put, Filipinos love to eat. In fact, fast food business in the Philippines is doing well over the years, as proven by the presence of many fast food outlets and its continuous expansion across key city blocks.

Whether it is a local store name or a foreign franchise, it's not difficult to have one set-up and running. With low capitalization requirements and fast return-of-investment period, fast food outlets can be a big area with parking lot or drive-through space, or as kiosk, food carts and booths in shopping malls. The key thing to be considered here is the fact that it should appeal to the Filipino taste: spicy, sweet or salty. It's no wonder that in the Philippines, even foreign fast food chain are selling foods that is an adaptation of popular Filipino dishes. With budgeted money to spend on meals, Filipinos are always delighted to grab a bite on fast food outlets, especially when there is a wide selection to choose from. There are, however, other reasons why fast food chains are a hit in the Philippines. In key business districts where people are always on the go, lunch breaks and light snacks are spent by taking a quick bite at these outlets. Tired from the days work, dining out meals is better than having to prepare and cook at home. Filipinos are also known for its close family ties, and weekends are always spent with the family going out and having lunch or dinner outside.

Some of the popular fastfood chains in the Philippines are the following: Jollibee (burger, pasta, fries) Mc Donalds (burger, fries) Wendy's (burger, fries) Burger King (burger) Kentucky Fried Chicken (chicken meals, chicken burgers) Goldilocks (meals with rice, pastries) Red Ribbon (pasties and cakes) Chowking (Chinese delicacies) Shakeys (pizza) Pizza Hut (pizza) Greenwich (pizza, pasta) Dunkin Donut (donuts) Mister Donut (donuts)

For instance, in the Bicol Region, there are outlets like Biggs and Geewan that compete well even with the presence of outlets known nationwide. This is because they offer dishes that are native to the Bicolanos, like pinangat and laing.
